NEWSHOUR (Reuters) – PBS Newhouse will begin airing its first episodes of its new hour-long documentary series on Wednesday, a move that signals a shift to more mainstream content and a shift away from the news.PBS Newshours new hour will focus on “The Politics of News” from the perspective of journalists, experts and activists, and will focus more on the way journalists and their sources report and report, the network said in a statement.
Newshour, a nonprofit news network that broadcasts news about public policy, politics and public affairs from a variety of perspectives, began airing its latest episode on Sunday and will return to its original schedule in the next few weeks, according to the network.
Pbs Newshors first two hours of its program are already available for streaming.
Newspaper companies such as CNN and Time Inc are among those that have been working to develop more mainstream programming in recent years, including an hour- long documentary series for CNN last year that focused on the 2016 presidential election.
But there has been little indication that PBS NewShour will be able to replicate that success.
The network, which is one of the most trusted news sources in the world, has struggled to compete with the broadcast networks, which have seen an explosion in viewership in recent months, including in recent weeks.
